Generational Programming

Generations, can be identified by what went on in their lives.  For example since World War 2 you can identify the generation by the war fought during their prime.  In the 40's it was World War 2.  In the 50's it was Korea.  In the late 60's to early 70's it was Vietnam.  In the 80's it was the Cold War.  In the 90's it was The Middle East part 1. Just after the turn of the century it was 9/11 through today and the war on terrorism.

Each of these generations was affected by the events of their day and taught the next a variant of fear based on their experiences.  Many of the views we hold are based on how our Ancestors reacted to their experiences through these wars.

War is not the only thing that colors our views today.  So many have come from abusive, dysfunctional homes.  Whether it be drug or alcohol abuse, anger issues, religious fanaticism, mental health issues or just the belief that someone has the right to beat their families, so many have suffered at the hands that were supposed to care for them the most.

How you were raised and the attitudes you were taught has a great impact on your future success.  If you were raised in a loving home and supported in all of your dreams, you are more likely to succeed.  If you were raised in a home where you were made to feel worthless and that what you wanted was not important, chances are great that you will continue to go along pleasing everyone else.

The mind is a very powerful creator.  Your mindset will determine how you live your life.  Those who see opportunity at every turn will jump for those that fit them.  Those that see nothing but the world stepping all over them will most likely never get anywhere.

Being raised in a mentally ill home, you can imagine that I was not raised in a home supportive of my dreams.  This environment was cultivated over generations and had nothing changed would have continued to spiral downward in the next generations.

If you want to change the way your life is going you have to change how you think before changing what you are doing will achieve better results.

Changing a lifetime of programming is not easy, but it is possible and if you have been negatively programmed, vital for future happiness.  The first step is to recognize the negative programming.  Once you have done that then you can take steps to become reprogrammed.  It will take time and the way that works for me may not work for you.  It will take research and activity to find just what does work for you.

For me affirmations, surrounding myself with positive people,  and reading self-help books  has helped tremendously.  Eventually I will be looking for a coach of some sort to get me the rest of the way.  some of you will require therapy and other intervention before you can even begin to reset your mindset.  What's most important is you can overcome generations of programming if you are willing to do the work.
